Clauses of Purpose

Form

… + to + Verb (base)
(The most common and simple way)

She is studying hard to get good grades.

I went to the kitchen to make some coffee.

Meanings

Explaining the Goal or Intention

We use clauses of purpose to explain the reason for an action. They all answer the question “Why?”.

Why did you go out?To get some milk.

Why are you saving money? So that I can buy a car.

Why should we work together? In order to finish the project faster.

Remember: Use for to talk about the function of a thing, not a person’s action.
(✗ I went out for to get milk.)
